This year National Bike Week, one of the UK’s biggest cycling events is being held between 14th and 22nd June and the Travel Plan Network is encouraging members to start thinking about planning events for your staff.
The week aims to get bums on saddles up and down the country, demonstrating the social, health, and environmental benefits of cycling, not to mention the shear convenience of the bike. It aims to bring people together, to show them that cycling can help them to feel healthy, fit and free.
In previous years employers from around West Yorkshire have organized a variety of one off events in Bike Week to encourage their staff to cycle. Examples include; a free breakfast for staff that cycle to work, team competitions; free ‘bike doctor’ maintenance sessions, on and off road ‘try cycling’ sessions with trained instructors or a group lunch time ride.
If you are thinking of organizing an event for your staff during bike week please log on to the official bike week website, where you can download an event organizers guide, order free bike week resources such as posters, flyers, balloons etc as well as registering your events. Any registered bike week events qualify for free public liability insurance up £10m. Or if you want further information please call 0845 612 0661.
As well as your own ‘Bike on to Work’ events your Local Authority may be organizing other bike week events such as family rides, which you may want to publicise to your staff. Look out for local press and check the bike week and your local authorities websites regularly.
