A big thank you to every organisation which took part in the February car share campaign and helped the Travel Plan Network on its way to reducing commute related CO2 emissions in West Yorkshire by 30,000 tonnes.
There was a lot of interest in the campaign with 21 organisations taking part. Some 123 diary cards were returned and 264 people sharing car journeys in February saving just under 76 tonnes of CO2 over the four week period.
Commenting on the campaign, Tom Lloyd from the Travel Plan Network said, "the car sharing campaign results show that making a small change to your journey to work such as sharing your trip with a work colleague, family member or friend can make a real difference to both your pocket and the environment. If those who participated in the campaign continue to share a car over the next two years, up to 1820 tonnes of CO2 will be saved which is a staggering figure and they will be helping to cut congestion too’.
The clear leaders in C02 savings were WM Morrisons in Bradford who saved 22.13 tonnes overall, and HBOS who saved the most C02 per respondent at 685.3kg. For your individual organisation’s savings, please follow the link in the April newsletter.
The car sharing winners of the prize draw came from First Direct and Kirklees Council. The first prize was shared amongst three staff at First Direct and was presented to them by their Travel Plan Coordinator and Travel Plan Network Advisor.
Commenting on car sharing, the prize winners said they would continue to car share everyday, when their shifts allow, as it saves money and time and makes the journey to work more enjoyable. The driver of the prize winners at First Direct said ‘car sharing reduces pollution and road traffic and makes it easier to get to work. At First Direct, we can take advantage of the priority car parking spaces for car sharers, which are positioned closer to our building’.
