Making Sustainable Travel Work Event 6th March

Over 120 delegates attended the Travel Plan Network event in Bradford.

TPN event

Bradford played host to the first WY Travel Plan Network event of the year, where over 120 delegates from around the county attended to find out more about travel planning, making sustainable travel work for companies and how both the environmental and financial benefits can be passed on to staff.

The aims of the event were to showcase out how the WY Travel Plan Network can help and support members, highlight good practice on Travel Planning, learn more about what the Highways Agency are doing, and most importantly give an opportunity for delegates to ‘network’ with other members.

Delegates were also given the opportunity to browse a variety of exhibition stands including car sharing from lifshare.com, Active Travel (walking and cycling), Whizzgo car clubs, Carplus, Metro and the Highways Agency as well as speak to the Travel Plan Network Advisors on their own stand.

Highlights from the event were:

  • Over 60 delegates made a sustainable travel pledge, these were entered into a prize draw to win a variety of prizes.
  • The announcement that the first car share lane on a UK motorway would be opening in West Yorkshire in the next two to three weeks
  • According to delegates the highlight of the event was Alison Truswell’s presentation on her experience of travel planning at at Meadowhall which was described by some as ‘motivational’ and ‘inspirational’ .

If you were unable to attend the event but would like further information, the presentations from the day are available to download, these are Travel Planning presentation, Highways Agency presentation and Sustainable Travel at Meadowhall.

Thanks goes to the Highways Agency for sponsoring the event and to City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council in helping to make it a great success.
