Workers across West Yorkshire can share the journey to work thanks to a new web site.
Residents of Bradford, Wakefield, Kirklees, Calderdale and Leeds can now access a database which links people who live in the same area who drive to work. They can also use it to share other regular journeys.
Each authority currently runs its own carshare web site but recognising that people often lived and worked in different authorities, they have now joined forces to set up and promote www.wycarshare.com which is an access point for them all.
In a month-long campaign, advertisements are being featured on the back of buses across the whole of West Yorkshire, targeting drivers who could potentially be sharing their journey.
Sharing a car with two or more people could save residents £1,146 per year in petrol and car parking costs, and the database is free to use. As well as saving residents money, car sharing also cuts down on pollution and congestion.
In some areas car sharers can also take advantage of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes which make their journey faster and easier.
Over three thousand people are already taking part in the scheme. To register as a car sharer log on to www.wycarshare.com.
