Get active, get healthy and win up to £250 on your way to work!
We have £700* to give away to people who walk or cycle some or all of the way to work in June 2008.
Walking and cycling are perfect ways to exercise; they’re good for your pocket, the environment and your health. They also benefit your employer, as the more staff who actively commute to work, the less staff parking spaces are needed! Plus, staff who are active on the commute are healthy, happy and sociable which in turn ensures staff arrive ‘ready’ to work, are more productive and less likely to be absent due to illness.
To enter the competition, all you need to do is to walk or cycle for some or all of your journey to work at least once during June and tell us about it. If you use public transport you can take part by walking or cycling to the train station or by getting off the bus a few stops earlier. If you drive, why not park further away from the office and walk or cycle the final part of your journey? It couldn’t be easier!
Taking part is easy, all you need to do is complete your details on the travel diary card and record your mileage each time you walk or cycle to work during June. When you have completed your diary card, return it to us by Friday 11 July.
Diary cards should be obtained from your employer , or if you are not employed by a Travel Plan Network Member organisation, by registering your details here and we’ll then post the card to you.
If you provide your email address on the diary card, we will let you know just how many calories you have burned and how much C02 you have saved by walking or cycling instead of driving to work.
The campaign has been designed to tie in with National Bike Week (14th-22nd June) and recent walking initiatives e.g. National Walk to Work Day (24th April) and the launch of Leeds Walkit. Walking or cycling as part of any event that is connected to the commute in June, will count as an entry into the prize draw.
By taking part in the campaign you will also have the opportunity to raise money for a locally-based charity, Heart Research UK. You could pledge to walk or cycle the length of Hadrian’s Wall during June (73.5 miles) or Mount Everest in a week (5.5 miles). With your work colleagues, you could devise a team challenge; for example, which team is quickest to walk or cycle the Great Wall of China (4000 miles)!
Sponsorship forms are available from your workplace co-ordinator (Travel Plan Network employers) or you can set up your own personalised webpage to collect sponsorship money online. If you need more information about sponsorship, contact Heart Research UK
