The five existing West Yorkshire local authority run car share sites have merged to form a single brand new, free car-share website for the whole of West Yorkshire. www.wycarshare.com launched on the 1 August and will replace the five separate car-share schemes within West Yorkshire: Bradford Carshare, Calderdale Carshare, Carshare Leeds, Carshare Kirklees and Wakefield Carshare.
The new scheme will be promoted over a much wider area, so we expect to see even greater levels of new members signing up - further increasing the chances of members finding a suitable journey-match.
The website allows your employees to register for free, the details of any car journeys they wish to share. The system will then search for other members who are going the same way, so they can make contact with each other and arrange to travel together.
The West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network would encourage its members to promote the free website to their car driving employees by adding a link to your Intranet site or displaying our downloadable car sharing poster
Encouraging your colleagues to share the journey to work can save cash for both them and your organisation as research in West Yorkshire reveals that a car park space can cost an organisation over £500 per year and a typical commuter who car-shares every day saves about £800 per year.
The software behind WYcarshare has been provided by the UK’s largest car-sharing network, liftshare, which around 450,000 individuals have joined.
Organisations who have their own private sites can access their group by clicking on the members section on www.wycarshare.com home page.
Employees who have already registered on to the district schemes will automatically become members of www.wycarshare.com the only difference to their account will be that it may look a little different.
